Wineries

Its name arises fromthe location of the estate, close to the Vicario Dam, and from one of the founders’ ancestors who was the Vicar of the Diocese and who defended the concept of Pago as a sign of high quality. Quality based on closemonitoring of the product from the vine-stock to its final bottling and in only elaborating grapes grown on the estate itself.

The winery, with a vanguard silhouette, does not leave anyone indifferent. It has been built on the land of the vineyard itself, blending into the landscape of the foothills of the Montes de Toledo. It combinesmodern and traditional design, charm, contrasts and a romantic flavor. It represents an initiative of the siblings Antonio and Ignacio Barco, who have respected the family tradition that dates from the time of their father, Darío Barco, proprietor of a winery in Miguelturra until the year 1995. With generous dimensions, the winery has been created to process the totality of grapes that are produced and to elaborate and mature wines of maximum quality obtained from these fruits. Currently 130 hectares of vineyard are planted, divided into 25 small plots, which receive individualized attention and treatment in accordance to the characteristics and variety of the grapes that are grown: Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano, Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot for the red wines and Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Verdejo for the white wines.

The current project was developed in the year 2000, with a global nature that reaches far beyond mere elaboration of quality wines, as it not only includes its own vineyard and a magnificent production and ageing cellar, but also extends to the area of wine tourism, with a restaurant and luxury hotel. Just a few scarcemeters from the Guadiana River, within the fantastic facilities of the estate is a swimming pool nestled amongst the ancient adobe wall ruins and Holm Oaks, with a garden area surface of more than 7000 m2, completed with paddle tennis and tennis courts and a small spa. Market cuisine with fresh seasonal products can be enjoyed in the restaurant, directed by Chef José Alfonso Merlo.  

The winery is also very highly linked to the area’s cultural activity, sponsoring art exhibitions at its facilities and organizing musical summer evening dinners under the sparkle of the stars, which are called “En Clave de Pago” (In Pago Clef).
