In the late 1990's, the Fuentes Family decided to establish the winery of RIO NEGRO, fulfilling their dream of elaborating distinct and unusual wines at their 1370 acre farm (RIO NEGRO), recuperating the tradition of winegrower in the Region of Guadalajara. The ambitious project has been designed and supervised by the Enologist and Investigator Dr. Juan Mariano Cabellos.
RIO NEGRO is located several kilometres from the village of Cogolludo, within the Provinde of Guadalajara, in the foothills of the Sierra Ayllón, within the environment of the traditional stone villages of the 'Arquitectura Negra'.
Dr. Cabellos has planted 62 acres fo choice vineyards situated at the unusual altitude of 1000 meters; thereby challenging the traditional opinion as to the situating of vineyards at high altitudes among wine producers in Spain. The vineyards are surrounded by wooded areas of Oak, Evergreens, Pine and picturesque rolling hills.
