Wineries

An idea: the conversion of the region of La Guardia, in Toledo, into a top-level wine producer. A vine grower: Fausto González. Bodegas Martúe La Guardia is the result of their coming together. The winery was founded in year 2000 with its main shareholders being the González-Borrego family, vineyard owners in this locality for many years. The newly constructed winery has 2,700 m2 and has the most modern means for the elaboration of wines. It is the soul of the estate, not only through it being surrounded by vineyards, but also as it is the center for social life in the installations of this business.

In the basement, seven meters below floor level, there is an ageing cellar where 1,000 new, French and American oak casks rest contributing their flavor to the wine. During its construction, it was dimensioned for the production of 350,000 bottles a year. Only grapes from the 87 hectares of vineyards planted in two plots owned by them are used: Campo Martuela, the first plot of land where the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo and Petit Verdot varieties started being planted, and El Casar where, apart from those stated above, the new Malbec and white Chardonnay are planted. Martúe Especial should be highlighted from among its wines, being the highest expression of this wine cellar, prepared with grapes from the oldest vineyards with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah varieties and aged for 12 months in French and American oak casks.

But Martúe is more than a winery, also offering the possibility of holding events, from a simple lunch between friends or for business tomeetings of boards of directors. For the latter, there is a roomprovided with the necessary technology for this type of meeting. The catering service is comparable with the quality level the whole wine cellar shows, offering elaborate dishes that are prepared using traditional recipes.
